Reason 543,859,411,229 why we DON'T have cable

Unbelievable....

Nick Jr has a segment out, "NickMoms".

"The two-hour block includes a reality show called "NickMom Night Out" and "What Was Carol Brady Thinking," in which "Brady Bunch" reruns are laced -- in the style of VH1's "Pop Up Video" -- with racy thought bubbles purported to represent what was really on the family matriarch's mind in the scene. (Sample: "Does Mike think needlepoint is foreplay?"). "

Seriously?

Deep in the Heart of Texas

This weekend, we hit up Hwy 69 (well, technically, 412 to 69, then 69 turned into 75 but that was too complicated to type.....er, what, I just did. Anyways!) and made our way to the Big D. Hubs was seriously counting down the minutes to the biggest game of his life. Most of y'all know that he is probably the biggest OU fan that has ever/will ever walk the face of this earth and he finally got to go to an OU/Texas game. I am so excited for him. I got him the ticket for his birthday/Father's Day and his BFF's wife got a ticket for Tim's birthday so not only did he get to go the game, he got to go with his bud. And PRAISE THE LORD, Bob pulled out a W for little ol' me! We all met up after the game to enjoy the Texas state fair and it was a big hit. Parker got to do some rides and played a few games. My babycakes only got to do 1 ride b/c of height requirements. We feasted on corny dogs, fried cheese cake, fried oreos, and dippin dots. Big Bill also got to have his first In-N-Out burger....sadly I don't have a picture of that- ha!

Stupid Materialistic Things

Don't you just love a good shopping trip? I do. I love fashion, love to shop, love to spend $ I do NOT have....Anyways, so I am getting the ol' wish list ready for the hubs. In no particular order :

Fragrance

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh

Coach Signature

Coach Poppy

Coach Poppy Flower
Who doesn't love a good smelling gal?

Shoes
Here, I have a problem. I love shoes. Boots, flats, heels, running shoes...love them all.

How adorable are these Gianni Bini's???? Talk about your wearwithanythingshoe! Love it!

And who doesn't love a good animal print? Love the pointed toe on middle shoe, thank you Steve Madden.

I really, really need a new pair of running shoes. And you can't exactly just pick some off the good ol' world wide web (well, I guess you could BUT if you an avid runner like myself, you really need to get fitted and see what type of running shoe fits you best) so I won't list any of those because I need to get fitted again....my first choice is always Saucony's, but I have tried on some Brooks that I thought were pretty sweet.

Handbags
Ok, let me set up the story for you on this one. You see, while I was in Vegas a few weeks ago for work, I happened to see this precious little babe. My first mistake was going inside the store. The second mistake was picking up said handbag. My third mistake was looking at the price tag. It literally burned my hand. if i'm lying, i'm dying! (sorry, heard that the other night and thought it was a cute little saying) I absolutely love everything about this bag. The size, the color, the straps, the leather, it has this ah-mazing feel to it, the leather was burned around the edges to give it that worn in feel. Simply ah-maz-ing. I walked by my soul mate 4 times. FOUR times folks. And every time, I heard, "Ohhhh Jess......please, come hold me again....I don't care if your children dump their Batman/Spiderman/Hulks inside me. I don't care if they hide their hidden treasure in here. I don't care if you just throw me on the floor of your office as soon as you walk in." Seriously, it spoke y'all. I stood my ground, I ignore it, I am so strong. Whatev. All I can think about is that stupid bag!!!! Fast forward a few weeks later, and I am compiling my Wish List, do I put the bag on the list? Hubs would croak, literally croak.  What's a girl to do? A gentle voice whispered, put it on the list, Jess. Ok Satan voice,  I'll include it on the Wish List.

A few minutes later, I get this text

"if u would have bought that bag, you would have been divorced!!! that's insane!"

A little harsh, eh?

I thought so too.

Anyways, I highly doubt that this particular bag will be purchased by said husband, but I like to think of myself as glass half full kind of girl. So stay tuned.....

Oh yea, here's the bag. And it's only $400. only....

Narnia

Ok. I really didn't mean to leave y'all hangin after writing about my girl Boomer. So sorry. I blinked and the week flew by. Work has been madness. Complete madness. I think someone in my family has had an event almost every night this week, and for a homebody like me, that is too much. And last night, after I got home from a ladies event at my church, I had to get Parker all packed up for his road trip with his Poppy to STL. They are going to spend the next few days with Sis. Parker was especially excited to come to Mommy's work and eat donuts (this is a tradition, thanks to VBS back in the summer) before we met Pops. We are having a bike event tomorrow and have a whole bunch of "swag" stuff to give away and one of the guys I work with found a pair of sunglasses for him.

On Wednesday nights, Parker has Awana's at church and I usually go walking with babycakes. I asked Billy to go this time with me and he said sure......afterwards he also said that he wouldn't walk with me ever again. It was just a few miles....and we walked. Come on Bill! Found Peyton a little piggy to rest on....

Have I mentioned that Parker wants a Chronicles of Narnia birthday party? And he wants to be King Peter for Halloween. Two difficult acts to conquer, but I was able to mark the costume off my list, thanks to ebay. The party is going to be a daunting task though.....on my list of  to-do's are
  • hire 2 sword fighters (I even tried to hire some fencing folks and they don't allow that, but for a small fee of $350 I can have the party there. thanksbutnothanks)
  • if I can't find any sword fights, maybe a couple of high schoolers would work? After all, this is for a FIVE year old's party, surely they won't know the difference?
  • cake - all Parker wants is a sword and shield on the cake. DONE!
  • Invitations - already emailed my ideas over to my uber talented friend Lindsey from back home.
  • Decorations - somehow, I have to turn my home into Narnia, and I have to do this on some sort of budget.....not really sure how much is in that so called budget, but I should probably figure that out. Even though he wants everything from the 2nd movie (with Prince Caspian) I think I will still make my entry way a wardrobe for everyone to come through.....and I will also have some foam swords and shields and crowns for the kids....
What do y'all think????

Boomer

Did you get your tissue like I told you to do so yesterday? I seriously could hardly type this out, it is still so surreal.....

September 7, 2012 approximately 9:40 am....this time and date will always be etched in my head. Our precious Boomer, my one and only girl, our first fur child, had to be laid to rest. It was the hardest, hardest, hardest decision to make as pet owners. She had been sick off/on the last few months, the first time I took her in, vet concluded she ate a rodent and contacted a virus. The second time Big Bill took her in, seemed to be the same thing (same symptoms/same scenario)....they did mention running additional tests but didn't really push us on the matter so we just got the antibiotics and left. After I got home Labor Day weekend from visiting Grandma, I noticed she was looking really skinny and was a little depressed. Well, the next day was Labor Day, no one was open so I took her in Tuesday to a new vet.....I just wasn't happy with our current one and something just told me to change to this one particular vet. The minute he saw my girl, he said it wasn't looking good and they needed to keep her for observation and to run tests. I told him to do whatever he needed to do, but just keep me updated. As I walked out of the vet, my heart just sunk. Something just told me that it wasn't going to be good news....I cried the whole way back to my office, I couldn't even tell Billy.....there was really nothing to tell just yet as they hadn't done any test but it was just a feeling. That evening the vet called and said some additional tests needed to be done but confirmed what he was seeing, it was some type of blockage around her intestines...after a few days of observation and testing, he called to confirm that it was cancer and it was everywhere. They could operate and remove some, but couldn't guarantee to get all of it. Also, her age was a factor and since she had been so sick, was her body up to the surgery? I immediately called Billy and made him call the vet, I just wanted to make sure that I understood what he was saying.....he told Billy the same thing. That night, we talked about it without really talking about it. I think we both knew it was her time, but neither of us could actually say the words, lay her down.....I cried and cried and cried. Parker kept bringing me his stuff animals and Spiderman and telling me he loved me. We explained to him that Boomer was really, really sick and the doctor couldn't help her, so she is going to doggie heaven. Thankfully the husband is stronger than me, because I couldn't find the words to say. Well, it was about 7pm and I said, you know, if this is Boomer's last night, I want her home. She deserves to spend her last night home with her family. Bill said, you know the vet is closed, but I will call. Of course no one answered but he left a message. About 20 minutes later, he said, you know the neighbors behind us? She works there....she recognized our name when I called today. Instantly, I knew why we changed vets to that specific vet. I asked him if he thought the lady might have a key and he said I don't know but I'll ask. He returned about 10 minutes later and said she is meeting him in town right now and kissed me good bye.

He returned home with her about 30 minutes later. She was so happy to see me, but it was short lived. In a way, I think she knew it was her time. Billy picked her up and put her on the couch with me and we just laid there and snuggled. It was getting pretty late but I just didn't want her sleeping alone (she normally sleeps under our bed on my side of the bed) so we moved Parker to our room and me and Boomer slept in Parker's bed. I say slept pretty loosely, I don't think I feel asleep the whole night. The next morning, we had her out back and I just sat outside with her, savoring every last minute with her. She didn't play, didn't eat, basically just laid on the back porch. She'd wag her tail at the sound of my voice but didn't lift her head.

We made our way into the vet's office and they immediately placed us in the room. I was such a mess, such a hot mess, I couldn't even talk. Thankfully Big Bill handled the conversation with the staff and doctor and I just sat in the floor with my girl. We got some more time with her before and after and I am so grateful for the staff and how they treated us. The rest of the day was spent in bed, cuddled up with Harley. The next day, we tried getting out to run some errands, but Billy ended up dropping me back off at the house so I could be with Harley. I spent the rest of the day in bed again, cuddling Harley.

My heart just aches at the thought that she is no longer with us.....when Peyterbug looks out the kitchen window and hold his hands up and says, Moomer? Mooooommmmer? Or when Parker comes up to me and says, Mommy, I really miss Boomer a lot. The other day, we were practicing letters, M for Mommy, D for Daddy, etc, we went through the whole family and even did H for Harley and he suddenly got super excited and said, and B for Boomer! I just smiled and said, yes...B is for Boomer. We miss you girl, you will forever be in our hearts.

MIA

So I realize I have been a little MIA these last several weeks. It's not that I didn't have anything to say, because let's face it, I always have something to talk about, but life has just been a whirlwind. Let's recap, shall we?

First of August - Grandma was put in the hospital and gave everyone a scare. Flew down I540 and spent a few days home.

Early August - Successfully planned a surprise 30th birthday party for my bestie....all the way in Tuscaloosa. This was almost mission impossible but luckily I recruited a close friend of the bestie and had some help. Me and my boys loaded up and drove the short {longestdriveofmylifewithchildren4andunder} drive, arrive in the wee morning on a Friday and taking off in the wee morning 2 days later. It was one of the craziest trips ever and I only got to spend just a few hours with her but I'd do it all over again :) love her so.

Mid August - Work trip to Denver....where I happily extended my stay a few days for a little girls trip. The 3 of us decided a few years ago that we'd start doing annual trips, we previously met up in Branson the last 2 years but since I was in the Rockies and one of them lives there and the other has parents there, we decided to do it there. We had so much fun!!! I have known these girls since grade school and it is such a blessing to still keep in touch after all these years....even if we only talk on the phone 3 times a year, we always pick up right where we left all. True friendship, y'all.

Late August/First of September - Grandma finally has a diagnosis, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma....Stage 4. Made another trip home for a few days. She is a tough ol' bird, I'll tell ya that.

September 7, 2012 approximately 9:40 am....this time and date will always be etched in my head.....I will explain in tomorrow's post, because it deserves a day just for that. You will need a tissue though, so consider yourself warned (it has nothing to do with Grandma! Praise the Lord!)

Mid September - Viva Las Vegas. Another work trip. Seriously, what is the deal with work?! I hardly ever travel and then it's WHAM, here are 2 trips we need you on in the next 4 weeks. People in Vegas are interesting, ya know.....they don't care how they are dressed, what's hanging out (everything!!!!) or how they act. It's kind of sad actually.....anyways, moving on.

And here we are today, already the last week of September.....I really would appreciate if life would just slow down a little, but I doubt that will happen since we have a certain boy's 5th (did I really just type that#??!!) party to plan and then the holidays are upon us. Speaking of said little boy, I cannot, for the life of me, get him to make a decision on a costume for Halloween! Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Red Power Ranger....he changes his mind every.single.day. Usually whatever he picks for Halloween, he wants for his birthday party theme as well.....so that means I can't even start planning that until the little monkey makes up his mind.

On a really exciting note, Big Bill and I are finishing up some repairs around the old house so we can get ready to put it up on the market. A little nervous about it...so hopefully it'll go well. We have some land in mind already and we are getting some more details on it, but if all goes well, we should be able to purchase the land in the next month or so and then just wait for the house to sell before we start building. Lord knows we can't afford a 3rd mortgage (1st mortgage = home, 2nd mortgage = daycare for 2 ha!)

Here you have it friends. Me....in the kitchen.....mixin' stuff....I think you call that cooking?????
